Veronika Skvortsova: sport should be without borders
The 18th edition of the International Scientific Conference on the Current State and Development Prospects of the Elite Sports Medicine – SportMed 2023 featured an extended meeting of the working group on the development of sports medicine of the Presidential Council of Russia for the Development of Physical Culture and Sports.
The meeting was chaired by Veronika Skvortsova, Head of the Working Group and Head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA). Oleg Matytsin, Minister of Sport of Russia, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, President at the Russian Olympic Committee, Andrey Plutnitsky, Deputy Minister of Health Care of Russia, Boris Polyaev, Chief Outside Specialist in Sports Medicine of the Ministry of Health Care of Russia, President ay the Russian Association for Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation of Patients and the Disabled, representatives of the Administration of the President of Russia, heads and leading experts in the field of sports medicine took part in the discussion.
Veronika Skvortsova noted that the SportMed Forum, traditionally held within Russian Health Care Week, allows interdisciplinary consideration of many issues related to medical support of mass and high-performance sports. “For 18 years, the SportMed conference has been the most significant forum in the field of sports medicine in our country, serving as the main platform for exchanging opinions and developing new strategic solutions for the future,” she emphasised.
The Head of the FMBA stated that political decisions of international sports organisations in 2023 affected the entire world sport and actually violated the principles of Olympism, which had a negative impact on the fate of the global sports movement. Despite this, under the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Sport, the Russian Olympic and Paralympic Committees, Russian athletes took part in many international competitions and were fully provided with quality medical support. Russia continues to support the development of sport at the state level and build new international ties.
Veronika Skvortsova also spoke about a new unique sports project to be implemented in the coming 2024. For the first time in history, the Games of the Future multi-sport tournament will be held, combining elements of traditional sports and computer competitions. The main mission of the competition is to develop a harmonious person in all respects at the intersection of classical and cyber sports. The project is a breakthrough in the field of sports and a response to the demand of the younger generation.
“We can confidently state that sport should be without borders, and its development in the future depends on it,” Veronika Skvortsova is convinced. According to the Head of the Russian Federal Medical and Biomedical Agency, Russian sports medicine keeps up with sports, is responsive to the needs of athletes, keeps up with the times and at the same time reflects the modern development of biomedicine, is enriched with advanced achievements in the field of diagnosis, treatment, recovery, rehabilitation; special attention is paid to nutritional science and psychology; recovery centres for athletes are being created.
Veronika Skvortsova also highlighted other topical aspects of further development of sports medicine in Russia and sincerely thanked all those who care about supporting this branch of professional medical activity, which ensures the preservation of health and sporting longevity of all those who devote their lives to sport.
